Description

*Note* These bags may have marks or damage from storage, such as mould and corrosion which may lead to some snap domes failing. Colour varies (see image 5). Few may have writing or small holes (these should be off the main faces of the bag and not cause problems) - See last image for and example of condition

Belgian canvas rucksack, simple as. This handy pack's design was copied from the French and originates from the early 60's, when Belgium's colonisation of the Congo went kaput. Later in the 70's, these packs were made with PVC type material. As these packs are rugged canvas but still moisture friendly, they have encountered some storage damage, including corrosion and mould. A good clean up should fix most of these bag's issues though there may be problems with the snap domes where corrosion has attacked especially hard.

The pack consists of a main pocket with interior pocket to the back panel, two generous outer side pockets and one pocket to the back exterior panel. The shoulder straps are adjustable, along with the lid closing straps. Underneath, two luggage straps can be used to carry sleeping gear or extra items. If you're after a sturdy canvas pack with a bit of history (and don't mind giving them a little clean up), grab one of these Belgian rucks.

Old school day pack built tough

Mine looked unissued and only slightly showing the effects of long storage on the metal parts. Plenty of space for lunch tin, thermos and wet weather gear, the only modifications I made were to put in a few eyelets to enable a drawstring to gather the top under the lid and a little wax for proper weather protection and a piece of snow foam in the back pocket for comfort. These are nicer to use than the plasticy later models, everything is anvil tough and simple. They look like the same pattern as the Benin camo ones only cheaper and less colourful.
