Description

Mooooooooooooooorena Vietnam!
(Good morning Vietnam)

Though fairly isolated, New Zealand was not excluded in being nervous about the Cold War and spread of communism in the Pacific. In total, NZ sent more than 3000 personnel (military + civilian) to Vietnam between 1963-1975. The much needed update and more cohesive New Zealand Jungle Greens uniform (thanks Australia) was nicknamed ''pixie'' due to the angled chest pockets looking like pixie ears + slim fit to the body. After trials and modifications the New Zealand ''Pixie Greens'' was accepted for tropical combat dress in 1967.

The pixie shirt was designed to be worn tucked in or untucked, to allow for varying ventilation in the Vietnamese climate. This shirt is still surprisingly heavy for a jungle uniform and made of cotton drill. Reinforcing over the shoulders to the back, pockets to the upper sleeves and slanted chest pockets are all the utility this shirt needs! An uncommon piece of Aotearoa militaria that showcases the influence of British, Australian and American uniform design on a shirt needed to keep up with the times and conflict environment. Get your mitts on this esoteric collectable!
