Description
In 1910 before the outbreak of World War I, the US military shifted away from the old hemispherical canteen design and came up with the 1 quart canteen. During World War 2 the US would change the materials to steel (since aluminum was much more needed for aircraft production) and make small production differences. During 1942 one of the main visual changes was the cap - they went from a aluminum cap to a black plastic resin cap.
The 1 quart canteen got issued with a L-handle mess tin so you can stay both hydrated and fed. The L-handle packs down easy, locks into place and can stand alone much more securely than other contemporary mess tin designs. A simple chain makes sure you won't lose your canteen cap as well, a very simple yet clever combat design.
A must for any US WW2 buff whether you are a reenacting, playing airsoft or making period film productions.
